Dear Arizona, You suck.

Oh Arizona, are you fucking kidding me with this? After we've already been through the first 8 circles of hell with all of this nonsense, thanks to your elected officials? Not to mention the fact that one of them could have been our current president.

By late July, within your state borders, life officially begins on the last day of a woman's menstrual period. As in over a week before sperm meets egg. As in even before some subset of future parents will have met each another. As in a virgin could be pregnant.

I need a drink.

Somebody please tell me why crazy ass legislation like this is not front page news, but the current national parenting non-versation Just. Won't. Go. Away. No, actually, don't. Just pass me that drink please.

In defense of my lovely home state... usually after some ultra-conservative nutjob does something like this, the saner folks wake up and throw him out. I've watched it happen several times now, starting with Evan Mecham.

But yeah, it sure would be nice if the saner folks could stop it happening in the first place.

As to WHY this isn't news but the ridiculous Ann Romney thing is, I think the answer is clear- Republicans are just better at this sort of politicking than Democrats are. I'm not saying the Democrats are purer and above it, because I don't think they are. I just think they suck at it.

@Cloud - The Dems do suck at it. So I smiled inside a lot when President Obama said today "I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth." Go Barack! This election is gonna get fugly.

I liked it better when reading The Handmaid's Tale felt _less_ like reading the actual newspaper.
